Although I've been working on other people's websites for nearly 4
years now, I have long been involved in many aspects of the computer
industry. I by no means consider myself to be "the best" in any
single subject area, but I do feel that my broad experience is a benefit
to the people I work with. My favorite projects have always been
the ones that require me to learn new technologies & techniques.
Since about the beginning of 2004, in addition to all the
Internet-related stuff, I became involved in
Max Equity Inc.
It's taking up a large chunk of my personal time right now, but the
variety of things involved is what I love what about it.
Basically, here's how it works: we negotiate discounts (in the form of
volume rebates) with both local and national vendors (like Alside Siding
& Windows, Sherwin-Williams Paint, ProSource Flooring, etc.). We
distribute 70% of this money to our members, and the remainder we keep
to cover overhead. This is great for the vendors, because they
build brand loyalty and can gain customers from those members of ours
that are not purchasing their products; members can save $1,000's per
year off their material costs, which helps them compete in these
extremely rough market (especially with all the giants like Home Depot
and Lowe's entering the installation business).
